The UN General Assembly supported the Declaration of the century concerning the future of the workplace
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution expressing support for the Declaration of the century concerning the future of the workplace and calls on the UN agencies to use in their activities as stated in her policy proposals.
The resolution notes the historical role of the ILO and its tripartite partners in promoting social justice and emphasized the need to adopt a people-centred approach to shaping the future of the world of work. It expressed support for the Millennium Declaration the provision that "full and productive employment and decent work for all is a key factor in sustainable development and therefore should be a priority of national policies and international cooperation." The resolution was presented to the permanent missions to the UN of Belgium and Jamaica, the co-chairs of the informal "group of friends of decent work".
The resolution of the UN to all UN programs, specialized agencies, funds and financial institutions – proposed in consultation with representatives of employers and workers to consider ways of implementing in their activities the provisions of the Declaration. This applies in particular to the Framework programmes of the UN on cooperation in the field of sustainable development (previously known as UNDAF), which serve as the main planning tool of the UN activities at the country level.
Among the policy recommendations is the empowerment of people to take advantage of the benefits in front of them open to changes in the labour market, the strengthening of labour market institutions in order to ensure all workers adequate protection, the promotion of sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
UN General Assembly also invites the Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres to take into account the Declaration of the century, reviewing the relevant reports. Taking into account the fact that the issues associated with shaping the future of the workplace, are becoming increasingly important, this will help to ensure that the UN system contributed to human-centred approach to shaping the future.

The adoption of resolution UN GA welcomed the ILO Director-General guy Ryder. "The decision taken today by the General Assembly, he said, is a tribute to the work undertaken by ILO, the evidence that the UN system recognises the ILO's mandate is as relevant and vital as a hundred years ago. The resolution calls upon all States members of the United Nations and UN agencies to implement the Millennium development principles. This is an important step to prioritize people-centred approach to shaping the future of the workplace, to invest in people, in institutions, in sustainable growth in the interests of full and productive employment and decent work for all".
The Declaration of the century was adopted by the member States of the ILO in June this year during the annual International labour conference and is a plan of action which the ILO will be guided in future work.
